The Companion Guide

Printing directions

Who Are We

First Things First

I'm so happy you've purchased the Companion Guide. There are a few instructions you'll need to follow if you are printing from home.

If printing in color (recommended) make sure your printer ink levels are above halfway because this guide is FULL color.  You can print it in black and white however parts of it may be lightened and tricky to see.

You will want to make sure that you have at least 13 pages loaded into your printer tray. And you will want to pay attention to the way your printer intakes the paper and the orientation that it 'spits it out'.

Open your Companion Guide PDF when you are ready to print your document, and tell your computer to print it. You do this several ways: Select File, scroll down to print option  OR  on your keyboard do 'command 'P' OR right click near the opened document and scroll to select print option.

When you get to your printing setting screen after selecting 'print' you have some decisions to make...

Review these options in your 'print preview' window:

You want to make sure that your document will print LANDSCAPE (horizontal) otherwise this grand plan will not work out.

Next make sure you print in color, and tell the printer to 'print actual size' so the ink goes to the edge.

Now, you want to select which pages you will print. Select the 'print in page range' option, and tell your computer to print pages 1-13 first. (After it prints the first side, you will print 14-26 but hold tight).

If you have the option to deselect 'reverse order printing' do that. Otherwise we might have a bit of dyslexia on our hands in terms of page flow.

If the document in the small preview window looks like how you told it to print, then print it.

Watch how your printer grabs the pages and then lays them in the printer tray as they are printed. You want the final page printed (in round 1-13) to look like A BOOK COVER. If it doesn't then you probably didn't "unselect" the reverse print order option.

Hopefully you see the BOOK COVER on top of your printed stack of pages 1-13. Now you will need to flip your stack over and re-feed it into your print tray where it originally sucked up the paper. All printers are different. You will need to flip over and rotate your stack according to how your printer printed. You obviously want to feed the pages to your printer on the side that is blank.

Go back to your PDF opened on your computer and hit 'command + print' again. Select all the same options as before if your file closed. LANDSCAPE, ACTUAL FIT, COLOR, NON REVERSE ORDER, pages 14-26. Print.

All your pages should be in order, but they may not seem like it. DO NOT PANIC.

Put your cover side face down, and now stack the following pages (or check the order) in this order:

Word theme chart (bottom of stack) pg 47

Pink margin pg 45

Pink destiny pg 43

Destiny cover pg 41

Purple margin pg 39

Purple endure pg 37

Endure cover pg 35

Blue margin pg 33

Blue ignite pg 31

Ignite cover pg 29

Green margin pg 27

Green redeem pg 25

Redeem cover pg 23

HOORAY!

You've printed and organized your page order.

Now, here is the fun part! Stack it all up and in this order fold it in half.

Your notebook should look like it's starting to come together!

Here is where the exciting part and elbow grease comes in - binding your book!

You can do this any number of ways... If you would rather staple the 'spine' of this book in the crease of the fold that will work. Another way that looks and functions very nicely is to 'saddle stitch' it.

If you are going to saddle
stitch it, you will need a needle and thread. If you feel like going the real authentic cowgirl route, you can use the cotton string from any feedsack. You will want to use about half the length of the feedsack string, or about an arms length (close to 30 inches) of any sturdy string.

Using your finger as spacing, you can do a simple stitch all the way down the middle of the book, and come all the way back up the middle and tie a knot. When you do this, make sure to go slowly and do not shove the needle in with a lot of force or you may poke yourself or break your needle. If you feel you need to safely poke small holes with approximate 1/2 inch spacing down the spine you can do that to prep where the needle goes.

When it is finished you should have a very nice looking book with a lot of meaning woven through out it.

Now on to the Next One
